DISPUTED: the sources disagree about the block construction of exactly the engine this swap needs. A JDM engine dealer states the EJ207 "is semi-closed deck, since the GDB Rev A (V7)" - which would mean the Versions 5 and 6 fitted to the GC8 are not semi-closed deck. A marketplace buying guide states without any version qualification that the EJ207 "features a semi-closed deck block, which provides greater cylinder wall strength than the open-deck EJ205". The two cannot both be right for a V5 or V6 engine, and the difference is not academic: it is the usual argument for how much boost the block will take. On the source hierarchy neither side is strong - the dealer page (tier 4, vendor) outranks the anonymous marketplace guide (tier 6, no author, no sources), and the dealer's version-specific wording is the more careful of the two, but no manufacturer document was reached to settle it. No source found in this run reports a mount or crossmember change for putting an EJ207 into a GC8, and one compatibility overview states the opposite directly: the GC8 "directly accepts" EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, EJ205 and EJ207 - i.e. within the EJ family the mounting interface is shared. No German source was found on the actual approval of an EJ207 or EJ257 in the GC8; the following information is general, but with this vehicle it frequently applies twice over. Starting position: the GC8 GT Turbo sold in Germany has, from the factory, the engine designated "EJ20 T" with 155 kW/211 PS; none of the sources found names the EJ207 or the EJ257 as a factory engine of the German GC8. Both conversion routes therefore install an engine that was never type-approved in this vehicle here, and the EJ257 additionally comes from a vehicle generation that did not yet exist during the GC8's production period. First, the conversion itself: TUV SUD expressly names engine tuning as a modification requiring inspection and points out that a modification report under § 19 StVZO "may be required even" "where an ABE, EC marking or Teilegutachten exists". TUV Rheinland lists "vehicles with conversions for special purposes" as a case for individual approval (Einzelabnahme) under § 21 StVZO and summarises: "no registration without a positive report." Second, and with this vehicle often in addition: the origin case.
